Laurea University of Applied Sciences invites applications for a researcher position within the Service Business and Circular Economy research programme. This role offers a unique opportunity to contribute to cutting-edge research at the intersection of legal expertise, technological innovation, sustainability and resilience research.

The focus of your research will be on examining the evolving role of legal expertise in response to technological advancements-such as artificial intelligence, data, health technologies, and intellectual property rights (IPR)-as well as the increasing complexity of ethical and sustainability challenges, along with crisis preparedness. Your responsibilities will include developing research proposals, applying external funding and integrating your research into Laurea’s Master’s Degree Programme in Technology Law. In addition, you will be expected to supervise thesis work.

Digitalisation on a global scale, coupled with environmental and socio-economic transformations, is reshaping the landscape of legal expertise. This researcher career track position offers the opportunity to explore the role of legal expertise, capabilities necessary for ethical and sustainable development of technological change and transformation in the technology law context.

We are seeking candidates with a strong foundation in law, as well as demonstrated expertise in such areas of law as technological innovation and IPR. We expect a Doctoral degree in Law (LLD or PhD) or a doctorate in relevant field of social sciences together with a master’s degree in law (M.Sc in Law or LLM).

You should have a proven track record of successful research and significant experience in securing research funding. In addition, we value broad understanding of the interconnected crises of our time-such as climate change and biodiversity loss as well as geopolitical uncertainties -and the ethical and sustainability risks they pose in the context of technological innovation.

We are particularly interested in candidates who demonstrate:

  • Proven experience in international collaboration and strong interpersonal and teamwork skills; prior experience in project management is considered an asset
  • A genuine commitment to continuous professional development and academic growth
  • Expertise in multidisciplinary research and cooperation
  • Expertise in legal methodology

Benefits

The annual salary is between 43 000 € and 52 000 € on researcher track level 1, and between 50 000 € and 65 000 € on researcher track level 2.
