Norsepower, a pioneer in sustainable shipping solutions, is bringing sails back to shipping – and saving the planet at the same time. We are now seeking a dynamic and talented Mechanical Design Engineers to join our team.
Norsepower Rotor SailTM harnesses the wind to maximize fuel efficiency and reduce emissions of ships. It is the first commercially available mechanical sail for large vessels. It has a proven track record of successful operation since 2014. Norsepower’s project services cover all phases from sales to project delivery and operational support. Each project is planned according to the client’s needs and preferences.
You will join a dynamic 10-person Mechanical team with a primary focus on designing and developing Norsepower Rotor SailsTM. All open roles focus on mechanical design, each with a slightly different emphasis. In addition to design, you will do component selection and testing, documentation, and the creation of instructions. These positions offer exciting opportunities for travel to see your designs in action, gather valuable feedback on functionality, and participate in supervision and guidance. You’ll collaborate extensively with other teams, gaining insight into the entire process from component selection to maintenance of Norsepower Rotor SailTM. The responsibilities for the roles are as follows:
- Mechanical design focusing on product and component handling tooling.
- Mechanical design focusing on steel structures.
- Mechanical design focusing on steel structures, PDM and Creo Windchill administrator. This role requires more experience working with Creo, and the ability to see the big picture.
- Mechanical design focusing on the tilting foundation. You will also guide and supervise the hydraulic design work of subcontractors. This role requires at least a couple of years of experience and capability to strategic thinking.
To excel in these roles, strong interpersonal skills and experience with 3D design software are essential. Familiarity with production and a keen interest in development are also advantageous. You will contribute your ideas and work independently with precision. A continuous eagerness to learn and grow, coupled with a passion for thriving in a fast-growing company, are key attributes we seek. Our office in Ruoholahti operates on a flexible hybrid model, where we encourage 2-to 3 days of in-office collaboration to foster teamwork.

Requirements
- Relevant educational background in mechanical engineering (MSc, BSc)
- Some relevant work experience in design
- Experience with 3D design software (preferably Creo)
- Readiness to travel (20-40 days/year), adjustable as you prefer
- Full working proficiency in English
Bonus skills
- Understanding of structural analysis or composites
- Experience in lifting and transportation tools
