We are looking for an experienced

Chief Design Engineer, Machine Control

to work in Ponsse Technology, R&D team in Finland. (Kajaani, Kuopio, Tampere or Vieremä)

In this role you will possess the technical ownership of the machine automation systems of Ponsse forest machines. This includes for example software architecture and hardware selection together with control logics and algorithms. In addition, you are involved in defining overall system architecture and responsible for ensuring that there are sufficient resources in the system to implement the required features.

You will ensure that teams understand targets and organize required meetings. Moreover, you act as a product owner in scrum framework. Depending on the candidate, project leading can be also one of your responsibility areas.

Evaluating the quality of implementation and technical readiness according to set requirements together with other experts is also an essential part of your work. Effective communication with e.g. other departments of Ponsse R&D, supply chain, technology stakeholders and customers is vital in order to succeed in this role.

Required qualifications in this role:

  • A bachelors`s or master’s degree in automation, software engineering or a related field
  • Strong and proven experience in the engineering roles of relevant disciplines, preferably in the field of non-road mobile machines
  • Experience in implementing machine automation features in embedded systems
  • Deep technical knowledge in relevant areas such as control of hydraulic systems and software engineering
  • Understanding machine directive and related functional safety standards
  • Qualified applicant is a good combination of technical expertise, management skills, problem-solving abilities and effective communication
  • Excellent communication skills both verbally and written in English and Finnish

As a person you have an ability to lead and collaborate with cross-functional teams and external partners, as well as troubleshoot and resolve system issues effectively. You are proactive, technically skilled and take initiative. You also have strong problem-solving skills and work in a diverse team and see solutions rather than problems.

You will be part of the Ponsse’s Technology, R&D team, reporting to Engineering Manager, Operator Assistance Systems.

Your working location will be in Finland Kajaani, Tampere, Kuopio or Vieremä, but we are working in hybrid model. Some amount of travelling will be required in this role.
